Why the TUM21?
Starting from the breathtaking Blue Lake and ending at the lively Village Green in Rotorua, the TUM21 provides a captivating mix of adventure and scenic beauty. As you navigate through 21km of diverse landscape, you'll savor the peace of the lake, the seclusion of the Tarawera Forest, stunning waterfalls, charming paths of the Eastern Okataina track, and the distinctive thermal vistas of Sulphur Point.
Her Trails: Transforming Training
At Her Trails, we believe in creating a training journey that extends beyond the finish line. Our 12-week program for the TUM21 is designed to cultivate physical vitality, mental fortitude, and a deep-rooted passion for the journey itself.
Creating Foundations and Enhancing Performance
Our program kicks off with a 2-week foundational phase to ready your body and mind for the journey ahead. The following 10-week progressive phase steadily builds your stamina and strength, tailored specifically to the unique terrains of the TUM21.
Balance, Resilience, and Community
We understand that training for a long-distance race necessitates a balanced regimen. With a concentration on strength training, flexibility exercises, and yoga, our comprehensive program aims to augment your overall physical prowess. Significantly, our program incorporates mindset coaching, designed to bolster your mental resilience.

Nutrition, Recovery, and Support
Our program also emphasises the critical role of nutrition and physical therapy for maximum performance and injury prevention. With our experienced coaches' guidance, you'll navigate these crucial facets of training. Their knowledge will support and steer you at every stage of the journey.

Your Program Building Blocks
Experience a gradual and safe progression in your training with our proven system designed to prevent injuries and optimise your performance. Our program combines a variety of training sessions, including base mile, speed, hill, threshold, active recovery sessions, and long runs workouts.
Weekly Trail Time
Elevate your experience with our weekly episodes covering essential topics. From technique and gear to support systems, recovery, and safety, we provide valuable insights to enrich your trail journey and apply its wisdom in your everyday routine.
Run Specific Strength
Build strength, resilience, and longevity with our weekly 30-60 minute at-home strength videos. Activate, stabilise, and train your body through targeted exercises that enhance your running performance and help prevent injuries.
Enhance your body's mobility and unlock its full range of motion with our weekly 15-50 minute mobility sessions. Address imbalances, combat physical stress, and alleviate fatigue as you give your body the freedom to move and perform at its best.
Our weekly coaching sessions provide a dedicated space to address your progress, challenges, and modifications. We believe in the power of personalised support, and our coaches are here to guide you through your journey, offering valuable insights and motivation. I loved the process of building and completing my first 50km event with Her Trails. A structure that really saw me build my strength and confidence for the ultra distance, whilst still leaving me in the drivers seat to compliment the program with shift work.
